John O’Brien Top Fundraiser In 2009 Human Race
We are proud to announce that our very own John O’Brien has once again been named by the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County to be the top individual fundraiser in the 2009 Human Race. The Human Race is Sonoma County’s largest annual run/walk in which participants raise over one million dollars for their favorite charities. This year, John single-handedly raised a total of $18,674. Every year since 1989, John has sent out his famous letters of solicitation to 500+ of his closest friends for donations to his passionate cause, the American Cancer Society. He offers a range of “incentive” prizes, including an autographed photograph of him at the end of the race. This has worked very well, for John has been the Human Race’s first place individual fundraiser an unbelievable 12 times. John has raised an astonishing $272,459 to date.
John has been awarded the Spirit of Santa Rosa Award by the Chamber of Commerce and the Publisher’s Award from the Press Democrat and the Volunteer Center for his fundraising efforts.
