Making a difference in our community
We do more than pay lip service to community service, it is an essential element of our firm philosophy. At O’Brien Watters & Davis, LLP, the health and welfare of our Sonoma County community is a firm priority. Our attorneys and staff strive to make our community a better place to live, to enhance the quality of life for all, to make a difference!
Non-profit Leadership
We are deeply involved in leadership and governance of local non-profit, charitable, religious, professional and civic organizations. We believe that filling a chair on a board is not acceptable if you have not materially contributed to making the organization a better place during your tenure.
For example, our attorneys have made an impact during their service as chairs, officers and board members of such organizations as Community Foundation Sonoma County, United Way, Salvation Army, American Cancer Society, Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce, Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Santa Rosa Junior College Foundation, Rotary, Active 20-30 Club, Wells Fargo Center for The Arts, Redwood Empire Estate Planning Council, Sonoma County Bar Association and many others.
O’Brien Watters & Davis, LLP sponsors numerous fundraising events and gives of its time, talent and money for the betterment of our community. Many of its attorneys also volunteer legal services for clients or organizations needing pro bono assistance.
Spirit of Santa Rosa Award
Our senior partner, John O’Brien, is a perfect example of the firm’s commitment to the community. John was awarded the Spirit of Santa Rosa award by the Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce and the Publisher’s Award from the Volunteer Center for his fundraising activities and community efforts.
Since 1989, John has raised over $320,000 himself for the benefit of the American Cancer Society in the Human Race, an annual fundraising event sponsored by the Volunteer Center. His fundraising letters are legendary (and obviously very successful). John has been the subject of many feature stories about his activities and success.
Volunteerism - a Way of Life
"We all must volunteer our time, share our talents, and give a fair portion of our assets to help others in need, to give back for the good we have received, to make a difference in our community." (John O’Brien).
